Aħna kilna u xrobna miegħu wara li qam mill-imwiet.

F’dak iż-żmien, Pietru qabad jitkellem u qal: «Intom tafu b’dak li ġara mal-Lhudija kollha, ibda mill-Galilija, wara li Ġwanni kien xandar il-magħmudija; tafu kif Alla kkonsagra lil Ġesù ta’ Nazaret bl-Ispirtu s-Santu u bil-qawwa, u kif dan Ġesù għadda jagħmel il-ġid u jfejjaq lil dawk kollha li kienu maħkuma mix-xitan, għax Alla kien miegħu.  U aħna xhud ta’ dak kollu li hu għamel fl-art tal-Lhudija u f’Ġerusalemm Tawh il-mewt billi dendluh mal-għuda tas-salib; imma Alla qajmu mill-imwiet fit-tielet jum u għamel li hu jidher, mhux lil kulħadd, imma lix-xhieda li Alla għażel minn qabel, lilna, li miegħu kilna u xrobna wara l-qawmien tiegħu mill-imwiet.  Lilna ordnalna biex inxandruh lill-poplu u nixhdu li dan hu dak li Alla għamlu mħallef tal-ħajjin u tal-mejtin.  Il-profeti kollha jixhdu għalih u jgħidu li kull min jemmen fih jaqla’ l-maħfra tad-dnubiet bis-saħħa ta’ ismu.

Ħuti, jekk intom irxuxtajtu ma’ Kristu, fittxu l-ħwejjeġ tas-sema, fejn Kristu qiegħed fuq il-lemin ta’ Alla. Aħsbu fil-ħwejjeġ tas-sema, mhux f’dawk tal-art. L-għala qegħdin tfittxuh qalb il-mejtin lil min hu ħaj?

Kmieni mas-sebħ tal-ewwel jum tal-ġimgħa n-nisa marru ħdejn il-qabar u ħadu magħhom il-fwejjaħ li kienu ħejjew. Huma sabu l-ġebla mgerba minn quddiem il-qabar, imma meta daħlu fih, il-katavru tal-Mulej Ġesù ma sabuhx hemm.  U kif kienu mħassbin fuq dan, f’daqqa waħda dehrulhom quddiemhom żewġt irġiel libsin ilbies jiddi. In-nisa, mimlijin bil-biża’, baxxew għajnejhom lejn l-art; imma dawk qalulhom: «L-għala qegħdin tfittxuh qalb il-mejtin lil min hu ħaj? Mhuwiex hawn, imma qam.  Ftakru x’kien qalilkom meta kien għadu fil-Galilija, meta qal: “Jeħtieġ li Bin il-bniedem jingħata f’idejn il-midinbin, ikun mislub, u fit-tielet jum iqum mill-imwiet.”» U huma ftakru kliemu. Telqu lura minn ħdejn il-qabar u marru jagħtu l-aħbar ta’ dan kollu lill-Ħdax u lill-oħrajn kollha. Kienu Marija ta’ Magdala u Ġwanna u Marija ta’ Ġakbu u n-nisa l-oħra li kellhom magħhom; huma kienu li qalu b’dan lill-appostli. Imma d-diskors tagħhom l-appostli stħajluh thewdin, u ma emmnuhomx. Madankollu Pietru qam u mar b’ġirja lejn il-qabar; tbaxxa biex iħares, imma ma rax ħlief faxex, u raġa’ lura d-dar mgħaġġeb b’li kien ġara.

L-Għid il-Kbir (2013)

Kristu qam tassew rebbieh fuq il-mewt u d dnub…….Hallelujah

Dan huwa l-messagg li l-Knisja qed ixxandar f’dan iz-zmien tal-Ghid li beda nhar is-Sibt bil-lejl f”dik li tissejjah il-Velja tal-velji kollha. Fil-grajja tal-qawmien ta’ Kristu mill-mewt, il-bniedem jista’ jsib ir-raguni vera ta’ kull ferh u tama fil-hajja tieghu. Bil-mewt u l-qawmien tieghu Gesu tana l-possibilta li nibdew hajja gdida, mhux frott il-hila taghna, imma frott il-mahfra tieghu li qieghda kontinwament hemm biex tinghatalna. Bil-mewt u l-qawmien tieghu Gesu tana wkoll il-possibilta li nehilsu mill-biza tal-mewt personali taghna u wriena mod gdid kif immutu – f’sottimissjoni lejn il-Missier u bit-tama tal-hajja ta’ dejjem. Ghalhekk bir-ragun nghidu flimkien mal-Knisja – Dan hu l-jum li ghamel il-Mulej, ha nifirhu u nithennew fih. Hallelujah.

Ċerimonja Vġili tal-Għid (2013)

Illejla il-Knisja Kattolika tfakkar il-Vġili tal-Għid il-Kbir.  Il-Liturġija tal-Vġili ta’ l-Għid hija mimlija simboli. Fil-quddiesa tal-lejla jispikkaw erba’ taqsimiet:

  1. Tberik tan-Nar,il-mixgħela tal-Blandun u Tħabbira ta’ l-Għid
  2. Liturġija tal-Kelma
  3. Liturġija tal-Magħmudija
  4. Liturġija ta’ l-Ewkaristija

Il-Magħmudija tkun element qawwi u ċentrali f’din il-funzjoni. Magħha jintrabat ukoll it-tiġdid tal-wegħdiet tal-Magħmudija li kull Nisrani kien għamel fil-Magħmudija tiegħu.  Matul il-ġurnata ma tiġi ċċelebrata l-ebda quddiesa.

“F’Sibt il-Għid il-Knisja tishar mal-qabar tal-Mulej, timmedita fuq il-passjoni u l-mewt, u l-inżul fil-limbu, u tistenna b’sawm u talb il-qawmien”

Din hi l-omm tal-vġejjel kollha għax il-knisja tistenna l-qawmien tal-Mulej, ir-rebħa u ħelsien mid-dnub:

“Dik il-lejla kienet waħda ta’ sahra għall-Mulej biex ħariġhom mill-Eġittu, għalhekk dan l-istess lejl hu lejl ta’ sahra tal-Mulej għal ulied Iżrael, minn nisel għal nisel” (Eż 12,42)

Il-Mixgħela tal-Blandun

  • Il-blandun jitnaqqax fih forma ta’ salib li jfisser: Kristu lbieraħ, illum, bidu u tmiem.
  • Mill-ħuġġieġa b’nar ġdid jinxtegħel l-blandun ġdid.
  • Is-saċerdot jitla’ bih mgħolli ‘l fuq fid-dlam – id-dawl ta’ Kristu jirbaħ d-dlam, jbiddel il-lejl f’jum. Il-knisja tiddi bid-dawl ta’ kull xemgħa. Il-poplu mgħammed jrodd ħajr lill-Alla.

  • Wara Randan sħiħ ta’ preparazzjoni biex jagħmlu l-għażla li jiċħdu d-dnub u l-ħajja ta’ qabel il-Knisja tagħżel dan il-lejl tant qaddis biex il-bniedem il-qadim jegħreq fl-ilma u jqum għall-ħajja dak ġdid.
  • Il-Kommunità wkoll iġġedded il-wegħdiet li għamlet fil-Magħmudija.

Liturġija Ewkaristika

  • Din hi l-quċċata taċ-Ċelebrazzjoni – Kristu qam u għadu magħna jingħata għalina.
  • Il-Kristjan jista’ jieħu sehem mil-lum fl-Għid li ma jispiċċa qatt “Din hi l-ħajja ta’ dejjem li jagħrfu lilek, Alla waħdek veru u lill-Ġesu Kristu li inti bgħatt.” (Ġw 17,3)

Hamis ix-Xirka jfakkar fl-Istituzzjoni ta’ l-Ewkaristija Mqaddsa, l-isbah tifkira li seta’ jhallilna Kristu meta hallielna lilu nnifsu. Din il-gurnata kienet ghaziza hafna specjalment mis-seklu IV ‘l hawn meta fis-Sinodu ta’ Laodicea (can 50) gie mnehhi s-sawm. Fil-funzjonijiet insibu ghaqda poetika ta’ ferh kbir u dulur immens. Ferh ghall-istituzzjoni tal-Misteru Ewkaristiku u dulur ghall-Passjoni Divina li ser tibda dalwaqt.

Fl-ewwel zminijiet tal-Knisja, bhal-lum kienu jitqaddsu tliet Quddisiet. L-ewwel wahda ghall-midinbin, it-tieni ghall-konsagrazzjoni taz-zjut u l-ohra ghat-Tqarbin tal-Ghid. Meta giet imnehhija l-penitenza pubblika, thalliet barra l-ewwel quddiesa u l-konsagrazzjoni ta-zjut giet imhollija ghat-tielet Quddiesa, l-unika wahda li hemm fir-rit attwali.

Il-kulur tal-paramenti tal-Quddiesa huwa abjad ghaliex il-lum mhux biss sejra ssir it-tifkira, izda sejjer jigi maghmul dak stess li ghamel Kristu.

Sal-Gloria, l-quddiesa hija kollha ta’ ferh. Jindaqq l-orgni u fil-Gloria anke l-qniepen. Izda wara, dawn jisktu u jibqghu siekta sal-quddiesa vigilari tal-Ghid biex ihabbrulna li Kristu rxoxta. Flok il-qniepen tindaqq ic-cuqlajta, imsejha mill-Griegi: “agia zula” (agia zula), jigifieri l-injam imqaddes.

IL-QUDDIESA

Is-Salm Judica me Deus ma’ jinaghdx illum u c-celebrant jibda mill-Confiteor. Jitla’ l-artal, ibusu, jincensah u jaqra l-Introito u l-Kyrie. Wara l-Kyrie jintona solennement il-Gloria. L-introito jkanta l-glorji tas-Salib, li huwa s-salvazzjoni taghna, il-hajja u l-qawma taghna; is-Sagrificcju Edkaristiku mhuwiex haga ohra hlief is-sagrificcju tas-Salib.

L-Evangelju jfakkarna fit-tliet lezzjonijiet li Gesu’ ta lill-Appostli meta haslilhom saqajhom: lezzjoni ta’ umilta’, lezzjoni ta’ purita’, u lezzjoni ta’ karita’, jew imhabba, s-sinjal ta’ dawk kollha li jaghmlu parti mill-Knisja Mqaddsa.

IL-HASIL TAR-RIGLEJN

Wara l-Evangelju ssir ic-cerimonja tal-hasil tar-riglejn u f’dan l-intervall jitkantaw tmien antifoni jew anqas. Fihom tigi kantata l-virtu’ ta’ l-Imhabba. Fl-Antifona 6 nsibu: “Minn dan jaghrafkom kulhadd li intom dixxipli tieghi, jekk ghandkom l-imhabba lejn xulxin.” U fis-7 wahda: “Jibqghu fikom dawn it-tlieta: twemmin, tama u mhabba; imma l-akbar fosthom hija l-imhabba.” Izda fl-Antifona 8 naraw li permezz ta’ l-imhabba biss nistghu ninghaqdu ma’ Kristu: “Fejn hemm il-karita’ u l-Imhabba, hemm ikun Alla.. u b’qalb safja nhobbu wiehed lill-iehor.. u f’nofsna (permezz ta’ l-Imhabba) jibqa’ Kristu Alla.”

IL-PURCISSJONI

Wara il-hasil tar-riglejn, titkompla l-quddiesa bhas-soltu u fl-ahhar jinghad, Benedicamus Domino u l-Placeat, imma fil-quddiesa solenni tithalla barra l-barka u l-ahhar Evangelju. Ic-celebrant inehhi l-pjaneta u l-manipolu u jilbes kappa bajda ghat-trasport solenni tal-Pissidi bl-Ostji konsagrati li jkunu baqghu mit-tqarbina, sabiex jintrefghu ghat-tqarbina ghall-ghada fil-ghaxija.

Din il-pissidi tigi merfugha fil-kapsola ta’ artal imzejjen apposta bid-damask ahmar li proprjament huwa msejjah Sepulkru. Nixtieq nerga’ nfakkar li din ic-cerimonja tfakkar l-istituzzjoni ta’ l-Ewkaristija u mhux id-difna ta’ Gesu’ li sa hawn ghadu lanqas biss huwa mejjet. Sepulkru tfisser “qabar” – dan mhux qabar, imma l-Artal tal-ahhar Cena fejn titpogga l-Ewkaristija ghall-qima tal-insara.

L-Erbgħa tat-Tniebri is known as ‘Spy Wednesday’. Why?

In the Old Testament Joseph, who prefigured Christ, was betrayed by his older brother, Judah — the father of the tribe whence came King David and through which the Messianic prophecies were fulfilled — when Judah sold Joseph into slavery in Egypt for so many shekels of silver (see Genesis 37-38, and also Psalm 68:2-29 and Acts 1:13-20).

From that tribe of Judah came Our Lord, Who was betrayed by another Judah, a man who is more commonly known as Judas Iscariot (“Iscariot” refers to Kerioth, a town in Judea). This Judas handled the money for the Apostles and became offended by the extravagance of Mary Magdalen’s gesture of love toward Jesus:

  • John 12:1-81
    Jesus therefore, six days before the pasch, came to Bethania, where Lazarus had been dead, whom Jesus raised to life. And they made him a supper there: and Martha served: but Lazarus was one of them that were at table with him. Mary therefore took a pound of ointment of right spikenard, of great price, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair; and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment.

    Then one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, he that was about to betray him, said: Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred pence, and given to the poor? Now he said this, not because he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and having the purse, carried the things that were put therein.

    Jesus therefore said: Let her alone, that she may keep it against the day of my burial. For the poor you have always with you; but me you have not always.

    Immediately after this, Judas met with the chief priests to betray Our Lord for thirty pieces of silver. Here is St. Matthew’s version of History:

  • Matthew 26:6-15

    And when Jesus was in Bethania, in the house of Simon the leper, There came to Him a woman having an alabaster box of precious ointment, and poured it on His head as He was at table.

    And the disciples seeing it, had indignation, saying: To what purpose is this waste? For this might have been sold for much, and given to the poor.

    And Jesus knowing it, said to them: Why do you trouble this woman? for she hath wrought a good work upon me. For the poor you have always with you: but me you have not always. For she in pouring this ointment upon my body, hath done it for my burial. Amen I say to you, wheresoever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, that also which she hath done, shall be told for a memory of her.

    Then went one of the twelve, who was called Judas Iscariot, to the chief priests, And said to them: What will you give me, and I will deliver him unto you? But they appointed him thirty pieces of silver.

    For thirty pieces of silver was Our Lord betrayed, as prophecied by Zacharias: 1

  • Zacharias 11:9 -12

    I will not feed you: that which dieth, let it die: and that which is cut off, let it be cut off: and let the rest devour every one the flesh of his neighbour. And I took my rod that was called Beauty, and I cut it asunder to make void my covenant, which I had made with all people. And it was made void in that day: and so the poor of the flock that keep for me, understood that it is the word of the Lord. And I said to them: If it be good in your eyes, bring hither my wages: and if not, be quiet. And they weighed for my wages thirty pieces of silver.

St. Luke explains how this vile betrayal happened: a devil entered into Judas:

  • Luke 22:3-6

    And Satan entered into Judas, who was surnamed Iscariot, one of the twelve. And he went, and discoursed with the chief priests and the magistrates, how he might betray Him to them. And they were glad, and convenanted to give him money. And he promised. And he sought opportunity to betray him in the absence of the multitude (see also John 13:2).

But Jesus already knew this would happen, as we know from this earlier exchange with His Apostles, after He revealed that we must eat His Body and drink His Blood. He knew what Judas would do with the free will God gives to all men:

  • John 6:64-72

    The words that I have spoken to you, are spirit and life. But there are some of you that believe not. For Jesus knew from the beginning, who they were that did not believe, and who he was, that would betray him. And He said: Therefore did I say to you, that no man can come to Me, unless it be given him by my Father.

    After this many of his disciples went back; and walked no more with Him. Then Jesus said to the twelve: Will you also go away?

    And Simon Peter answered him: Lord, to whom shall we go? Thou hast the words of eternal life. And we have believed and have known, that Thou art the Christ, the Son of God (see also John 12:26-29 and Matthew 26:25).

    Jesus answered them: Have not I chosen you twelve; and one of you is a devil? Now he meant Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon: for this same was about to betray Him, whereas he was one of the twelve.
